Compression and Expansion I & II – 2015
In this body of work I have created a series of sculptures that play with notions of space, attracting and disorienting the viewer through the use of the mirrored surface. In this way, the work questions the boundaries between interior and exterior space, as well as the limits of digital technology. On a material level, I incorporated found materials, such as wood, into man-made constructions in order to create a sense of optimism. Drawing on classic and modern understandings of form, my sculptures create a dialectical communication between space and time. By investigating and arranging my tablet forms, I have discovered a method of pure creation that comes directly from my spirit. These organic structures are then coupled with video projections, which allows me to address specific contemporary issues surrounding communication, including the new landscape created by social media. It is a privilege to have access to such technology at one’s fingertips.
